Enhancing self-care capacity for women with gestational diabetes mellitus. An international partnership project for a better future for communities.
A journey from empathy to fulfilled pregnancies
We are a united collective bridging internationally renowned professors with outstanding scientific achievements from the University of Copenhagen and the University of Southern Denmark, alongside the dedicated doctors, lecturers, and healthcare professionals of Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Transcending barriers of language and geography, we stand together driven by a shared concern: How can every woman living with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) experience a safe, healthy, and truly peaceful pregnancy?
Our story was first written in 2018, when the VALID-I project was launched in Thai Binh (now continuing in Hung Yen). Those were the early days when like-minded hearts came together, bringing world-class academic expertise and an aspiration to implement activities that improve the quality of life for the type 2 diabetes community in Vietnam. Those first steps laid a solid foundation for a deeply understanding and enduring partnership.
Throughout years of tireless work in grassroots healthcare, we listened to the sighs and witnessed the overwhelming confusion of expectant mothers facing gestational diabetes—especially amid the digital age, where medical misinformation and unfounded advice run rampant. That profound empathy compelled us to turn a new chapter. The year 2022 marked a pivotal milestone when VALID-II was officially born. Here, we proudly offer an anchor of trust: Every intervention, every piece of knowledge shared, and every practical step is distilled from rigorous scientific methodology and absolute adherence to Evidence-Based Medicine according to global standards. By combining academic knowledge and digital technology, we have built a compassionate support network so that no expectant mother has to feel alone or lost on her journey to motherhood.
Time has passed, and now standing at the milestone of 2026, looking back at the road traveled, we are filled with pride for the smiles that have been reclaimed. But this journey will not stop there. VALID-III, our next project, continues to write new chapters with expanded research and intervention activities, promising to deliver even greater and more sustainable value—not only protecting women's health but also empowering the healthcare workforce in Vietnam.
We are VALID – A collective guided by the light of rigorous science, yet nurtured and warmed by love and empathy.
VALID is an interdisciplinary health research project conducted in collaboration between Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy (TBUMP), University of Copenhagen (UCPH), and University of Southern Denmark (SDU).
The project is funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Danida) to strengthen research capacity, support women's empowerment, and improve the primary healthcare system in Vietnam.
